Donna has over 20 years of experience serving clients in a variety of roles, bringing a strong focus on internal control and compliance, as well as solid accounting knowledge and problem-solving skills. She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 1991, a Certified Internal Auditor since 1999, when she was awarded the William S. Smith Certificate of Honor for outstanding performance on the CIA exam, and a Certified Fraud Examiner since 2001.
Donna has a wealth of experience supporting organizations like ICMA-RC, a financial services firm managing over $18B in assets, where she created, launched, and developed the internal audit department. The firm consisted of a number of affiliates, including the Vantagepoint Funds (an SEC-registered “series” mutual fund, offering 30 different portfolios), a FINRA-registered broker-dealer firms, and an investment trust. While there, she worked with the board of directors to create an internal audit function, and write the department’s charter and mission. In addition she conducted a firm-wide risk assessment, which was linked to a risk-based audit plan. Areas of oversight included controls over daily mutual fund pricing function, internal controls at investment sub-manager firms, and business continuity planning, as well as more routine accounting functions such as payables and revenue recognition.
Prior to working at ICMA-RC, Donna spent five years with Deloitte & Touche’s audit department, where she was responsible for conducting and managing audit and compliance engagements for clients in a range of industries including financial services, government contracting, retail, non-profit, and Federal government. Donna began her career at a small accounting firm where she learned all aspects of accounting, developed knowledge of a wide variety of tax matters ( individual, corporate, partnerships, payroll, sales, and other excise taxes), and honed her ability to quickly understand a vast array of compliance issues. She also has line accounting experience as assistant controller at real estate management company, where she had monthly financial statement and compliance responsibility for over 150 reporting entities.
In addition to CM2, Donna supports a variety of individuals and entities, including a $200M international development NGO with 25 offices, and projects in over 60 countries in the developing world, where she played a key role in the selection and implementation of an ERP system, including design of internal control processes and procedures.
